Tricks to Cut Out Sugar

The key to getting off of sugar is to have a substitute that is ready, that you do not have to prepare at the time you get a craving.

The best thing to have ready is a protein drink.

Below is a way to enhance the flavor of the protein drink so that it feels more like a treat.

Take a chocolate or vanilla, pea based protein drink, like Total Vegan, and add all or some of the following:

Add chocolate or vanilla flavored stevia (or no flavor stevia) 10 or 20 drops to taste.

Add cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice. 2 or 3 shakes.

Sea Salt: Add a pinch of sea salt at a time until you like the taste. Any sea salt will work, for many people Himalayan sea salt tastes better.

1 or 2 raw eggs: This makes it taste more creamy and smooth. There is always a chance of salmonella bacteria with raw eggs so if you are concerned about that use Davidson’s pasteurized raw eggs. Personally I just use organic raw eggs but I wash the eggs with soap and bleach, but that is not a guarantee of decontamination.

Make these drinks ahead of time. I leave them in the refrigerator in mason jars. You can drink the whole thing or just take a few sips when you get a sugar craving. USE A BLENDER

I often have this for dessert after dinner. The sweet taste shuts down my appetite and I get the satisfaction I would have gotten for dessert but the nice thing is that I feel better. I don’t get that bloated feeling that I get from a sugary dessert.

It is a good idea to force yourself to have a drink like this after dinner.  Here is why:

1) It helps to shut down your apatite.

2) If you don't eat enough inside your window you will become hungry outside your window.

Another Drink is “Power Greens” or another type of drink powder that is based mostly on green vegetables and possibly a little fruit. I like these powders better than your making a “smoothie” yourself” because most people put is way too much fruit and fruit juice.

Find a juice that is about 6 grams of carbs, 1.5 grams of protein and 1 gram of fat per serving. Basically “low carb” is all that is important for this drink.

These drinks come in all sorts of different flavors. If it is chocolate or vanilla then season it the same as the protein drink. Remember as far as the seasoning is concerned, everything is optional, these are just ideas.

If you get a fruit flavored green drink then use orange or lemon flavored stevia. You might not want the cinnamon in that one. However sea salt seems to make everything better.

The trick is to find something you like and have it ready. Don’t wait until you are hungry.

You can eat protein bars but they are more expensive. These drinks are about ½ the price of protein bars.

Hungry Outside your Window

If you are hungry outside your window the best option is to just eat fat.  You could try this butter based hot chocolate:

Boil 4 to 8 oz of water

Add 1 to 2 table spoons of grass fed butter. Or you could use 1 to 2 tablespoons if organic virgin coconut oil.

Add a few shakes of cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice.

Add a pinch of sea salt if you like. (optional)

Add 10 to 20 drops of chocolate stevia.

Mix this together in a blender.

Brew an ounce or 2 of cacao beans. Either Choffy or Crio Bru.

Mix together the cacau brew and the butter mixture.

I know I gave a wide latitude in regards to the amount of ingredients but it seems that people are very particular about this and everyone likes it differently.  So you will need to find a mixture that works for you.

This drink is similar to the coffee drink that you have for breakfast.  I just use cacau beans instead of coffee and I don't use MCT oil.

Note: Cacau beans have caffiene, not as much as coffee but it is there.

You can have this drink with tea or any other "brewable" product.  Remember to add the butter or coconut oil because the fat that will satisfy your hunger.
