Sauces

It is difficult to start a new way of eating, especially when you are used to eating grains, sugar and dairy. There are plenty of cookbooks you can use. On this site I have a Paleo Cookbook.

However, most of us who are not great cooks want to be able to make something quickly that tastes good.

The secret is having a few good sauces. If you like creamy sauces but have cut out dairy from your diet, try these sauces.

Mayonnaise can give you that same creamy feeling as dairy. The problem with most mayonnaise is that is it has the “bad oils, such as corn oil, and canola oil, grapeseed oil or soybean oil. These are the oils that may cause inflammation.

  • In the creamy sauces we use avocado mayonnaise.
  • Always get organic food if at all possible.
  • Some of these recipes have soy sauce, which technically does have gluten, so if that is a big issue for you, use tamari sauce.
  • Soy is not a great food in terms of inflammation but for most people these recipes will be OK.
  • Thank you to Yvonne Lau for creating these recipes.

Ginger Sauce

1/4 cup chopped onion

1/4 soy (or tamari) sauce

1 clove garlic

2 tbsp. lemon juice

Ginger (2 inches)

1 tsp powered Stevia

1/2 tsp vinegar

Mix in blender 30 seconds

Gently Heat Sauce To Warm Before Serving. Do Not Boil.

Creamy Basil Sauce

1/3 cup Costco Basil Sauce

1/4 cup avocado mayonnaise (thin with enough water to look like heavy cream)

Blend

Gently Heat Sauce To Warm Before Serving. Do Not Boil.

Soy (Tamari) Mayo Creamy Sauce

I think of this as a substitute for cheese sauce

1/4 cup mayonnaise

1 tsp soy (or tamari) sauce

1/8 tsp onion powder

Pepper (to taste)

Gently Heat Sauce To Warm Before Serving.  Do Not Boil.

You can add this to any beef, chicken, fish or vegetable dish. You can simply add it to broccoli or asparagus to get a “broccoli and cheese” flavor. You can use it as a topping for a yam.

Adding onion and mushroom flavor for steak or fish.

Stir fry onions and mushrooms in a pan with some sea salt.

Remove the onions and mushrooms.

Put the sauce in the pan and heat it with the juices of the onions and the mushrooms that you have just cooked. Add this to any beef, chicken or fish.

Creamy Marinara Sauce

1 cup prepare marinara or spaghetti sauce

1/4 cup avocado mayonnaise (thin with water to look like heavy cream)

Blend

Gently Heat Sauce To Warm Before Serving. Do Not Boil.
